This Saturday: FREE GTA Rollergirls interleague game

Hey you! Yeah, you. I know you’ve been wanting to come see what this roller derby thing is all about. You’ve probably heard about it, or seen old games on TV. Maybe you wanted to come, but the games were too far away, or the you weren’t sure you wanted to pay that much. Well now’s your chance! The GTA Rollergirls are hosting a free interleague game this Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at Ted Reeve Arena.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and we’ll have all sorts of activities for you (and your kids if you got ‘em) to do, including face painting and custom derby name artwork. Of course, our bar will be fully stocked, and we’ll have snacks.

What you probably didn’t know is that the GTA Rollergirls is the only not-for-profit league in Toronto, which means all the bar sales go to our dedicated charity for the year, SKETCH, which is a platform in Toronto for homeless and marginalized youth to transform their lives through the arts. The only thing better than catching some hard-hitting derby action is doing so and giving to a worthy cause.

So what else do you have going on Saturday night? The game will wrap up by 9:30, so you have plenty of time to join us for drinks later and meet some of your favourite GTAR players off the track. But be warned, Ca-Thump!’s apex jumps are matched only by her talent for chugging beer, and Happy Kilmore once ate more pizza than Takeru Kobayashi (okay, that’s not true, but she really likes pizza and would love to eat some with you!). Can’t wait to see you there!

When: Saturday, April 29

Time: 7 p.m. (doors at 6)

Where: Ted Reeve Arena

Which is: Just South of Danforth GO Train station, and the Main TTC subway station

What you’ll see: Some bad ass women hitting, jumping, weaving and crashing in a race around a track
