Is there a story behind your derby name?
It actually sprouted from that silly Candy Crush game. I originally picked something else, had it printed on a jersey and everything, but it didn’t fit right. This pick is how I feel when I am skating, playing derby or otherwise. It’s a bit silly and makes people smile (I hope), kinda like me :)
Who’s your favourite athlete and why?
Oh man, I dont even watch pro sports any more, all I think about is derby these days. What I do admire is someone who picks up any kind of athletics from scratch and doesn’t give up. Any one, any age, any sport. You tried it, you loved it, and now you live it. That’s someone I want to hang out with and learn more about.
Why did you join roller derby?
After some bad luck in a business and in a relationship, I decided I needed something new and different and something that was just my own to pick my self up with. Derby was all of those things. It filled every little dark spot that was living in my heart with sweat and laughter and light… as well as those good ol’ hip checks that actually helped knock my old self right into gear and got me back on my feet again! Gotta fall down before you can pick yourself up ;)

It seems a little harsh but it’s something that I have started to apply to my life in the last few years and did it before I even knew Yoda said it (and yes, I’m a little late to the Star Wars party), but saying you’re ‘trying’ feels a bit like ‘I am not going to give this thing my full attention or effort and we’ll just see what happens’ but when you commit something, when you say you’re going to DO it, you give it everything you can and push through whatever set backs or heart aches come up. You just do it. I suppose that’s two quotes ;) That kind of commitment is not easy and I think the best rewards come from something you never gave up on.
