Have you been missing some roller derby in your life? Well the GTA Rollergirls aim to please: we’ve got an action-packed Saturday coming your way with a double-header this weekend, Saturday, June 3!
When: June 3, 2017
Time: Game 1 – 6 p.m., Game 2 – 8 p.m.
We’re playing: Durham Region Roller Derby
Gstars vs. Atom Smashers (6 p.m.)
Debutantes vs. DRRD’y Farmers (8 p.m.)
Where: Ted Reeve Arena (south of Main Street subway station)
Tickets: $10 adults, $8 seniors at the door (12 and under, free)
Both the Gstars and Atom Smashers are looking forward to this rematch as their last meeting in May 2016 never reached its conclusion due to an injury. The Smashers are coming off a win last weekend, where they narrowly defeated the Los Coños by 12 points. The Gstars are feeling rested after travelling to Toledo, Ohio on May 13 where they picked up a loss to the Glass City Roller Girls. Cyclone Slam will be making her grand return for the GStars, jamming alongside Ca-Thump! and Max Fury, a welcome addition after Velvet Thunder’s sabbatical.
The Debutantes look to bounce back after a hard loss in Peterborough last weekend, and are eager to play the always fun DRRD’y Farmers, who also have a tight schedule coming off a game this past Sunday against the Montréal Smash Squad. This game should be a close call, and both teams will be gunning hard for a win to add to their belts.
As always, we will be serving beer and snacks (all tips from beer sales go to our amazing charity of choice, SKETCH, so bring lots of toonies!), with tonnes of merch, stickers and crafts available for purchase. Come on out and support your local roller derby teams! These are ladies in your community, who are excited to put on a fantastic show for you. See you there!
